About the event

Join us Thursday, January 23rd for an intimate gathering with some of Vancouver’s leaders in sustainable small business & food systems. Hosted in partnership with NADA Grocery, Vancouver’s first Zero Waste Grocery Store with a mission to cultivate a better world by inspiring people to change the way they shop for groceries, this event will feature shares from local entrepreneurs making big waves in our community, including Brianne Miller, Founder & CEO of NADA - more to be annoucned soon. Refreshments will be served. Spaces are limited, so register today to connect with other sustainability professionals and business leaders at our first event of 2020.

A portion of the proceeds from this event will support NADA’s 1% for the Planet contributions. 1% for the Planet is a global organization that connects dollars and doers to accelerate smart environmental giving. Through business and individual memberships, 1% for the Planet inspires people to support environmental organizations through annual membership and everyday actions.

Speakers:

Shelagh Kathleen, Field Marketing Specialist & Green Team Chair, Left Coast Naturals

Shelagh’s education is in Environmental Science and Sustainability, with a degree from the University of Alberta and a graduate certificate from BCIT.  Shelagh has worked on the marketing team at Left Coast for two and a half years.   She is passionate about healthy sustainable food and has focused a number of her research projects on LCN including topics such as food waste, packaging and getting to Net Zero.  

Luanne Svetejl, Key Account Manager, Left Coast Naturals

Luanne has worked with the sales team at Left Coast Naturals for the last five years.  She loves Left Coast’s focus on values and sustainability, and is excited that her work helps the larger community eat better, and be kinder to the planet.

Sarah Common, Co-founder & CEO, Hives for Humanity

Sarah is a community support worker and beekeeper; she is passionate about fostering vibrant, healthy community through empowerment and education. She believes in the profound impact of connecting individuals and communities to their land, their food and their spirit.

Buyer & Supplier Relationship Manager, NADA

Alison is a people connector extraordinaire. Her expertise lies in building long lasting relationships with growers, suppliers, and community partners while navigating the tricky logistics of package-free shopping. She has been inspired by the zero waste movement and can be found talkin’ trash on Instagram, scouting the local farmers markets, and dancing the night away at every community square dance in the Lower Mainland!

Ben Liegey, Co-Founder of Rethink2gether

Ben holds a Master of Engineering in food & environmental sciences and has over 8 years of international experience in sustainability. Since 2019, he is the Co-Founder of Rethink2gether, a sustainability consulting company based in Vancouver, focused on food waste prevention. Rethink2gether’s mission is to help and inspire food businesses to see that food is too valuable to waste, supporting them to make smarter decisions. Ben's expertise lies in sustainable food systems, climate change, environmental impact assessments & circular economy. Prior to creating Rethink2gether, Ben has namely worked in the food industry, leading a Zero Waste Working Group for the European food retailer Ahold Delhaize, and working as a Coordinator for SPUD.CA, the lowest waste grocery company in Canada. He believes that good food is essential for a good society and is committed to make the world a better place to eat.
