Dawn Hancock - CEP Coordinator


Dawn brings over ten years of experience directing staff and managing projects in the private and non-profit sectors.  She is currently the Communications Coordinator for the Canadian Professional Sustainability Institute.  Her two previous roles have been as Project Coordinator for the GLOBE Foundation and as the Administration Manager for an international environmental consultancy.

Dawn values living sustainably and carries sustainability to her professional life.  She successfully led her green-team in implementing office sustainability processes that resulted in reduced waste and increased profit.

As CEP Coordinator, Dawn will be responsible for: being the point-of-contact for all inquires; sending members event information and job opportunities; managing the content of the website; coordinating CEP events and registering event participants; and taking care of internal tasks for the Board.

Iona ToPresident

Iona

Iona Bonamis is a transportation planner at Stantec Consulting, focusing on public transit and active transportation. She is driven by her passion to reduce the environmental impacts of transportation activities, to improve accessibility, and to foster participatory planning.Ionahas been with the CEP board since 2005, and has been the President for the last two years. During her spare time, she enjoys traveling, volunteering, salsa dancing, singing, hiking, cycling, and volleyball.

Laurie Bates-Frymel Vice President

Laurie

Laurie Bates-Frymel works as an Air Quality Planner with Metro Vancouver, facilitating the development of regional air quality and greenhouse gas management plans and policies, and implementing air quality improvement programs.

Laurie has two BScs – one in Meteorology and one in Environmental Physics and Chemistry – from the University of Alberta, and a Certificate in Sustainable Community Development from Simon Fraser University.

Laurie is new to the CEP Board, but she has been heavily involved with the Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) for many years.  She served as a Director on the International A&WMA Board from 2007 to 2009, and Co-founded A&WMA’s Young Professionals Advisory Council. Laurie enjoys cycling, kayaking, yoga, travelling, gardening, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Alexandre VigneaultSecretary

Alexandre

Alexandre is a PhD candidate in the Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in the field of clean energy and distributed hydrogen production. Alexandre has been an initial board member of the goBEYOND project, supporting thousands of students across B.C. to take meaningful action on climate change and sustainability. He currently sits on the board of Leadnow, an independent advocacy organization to achieve progress through democracy.  Alexandre works as a consultant for Raincity Strategies and Beyond Climate Solutions.

Manon GartsideTreasurer 

Manon

Manon is an environmental educator and facilitates climate change workshops for the BC Sustainable Energy Association (BCSEA) where she teaches climate science and climate change solutions. She has also been the Scientifique en Résidenceat l’École Anne Hébert where she taught a wide variety of sciences and subjects through environmental projects.

Manon completed a B.Sc in Geology and an M.Sc in Isotope Geochemistry from l’Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM) specializing in Arctic heavy metal pollution. Before moving to Vancouver, she worked as an environmental analyst for an environmental lab in California. Manon recently received a certificate in Permaculture Design through the UBC Farm and the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at UBC.

Manon is involved in the TransitionTown movement, Village Vancouver, permaculture work parties and community gardens. She has been a CEP member since 2006 and is a past CEP Coordinator. Manon enjoys backpacking, collecting rocks and fossils, films, music, dancing and engaging in environmental policy.

Lesley Duncan – Mentorship Coordinator

After earning her PhD in Social Psychology from UBC, Lesley joined NRG Research Group in 2010 where she enjoys her role as Research Manager, especially when she’s working on projects related to social and environmental sustainability.  Marrying this interest and her belief in the value of productive working relationships, Lesley joined the board of Connecting Environmental Professionals where she is lucky enough to coordinate the mentorship program.

Beyond these roles, Lesley has discovered she actually enjoys running, is an enthusiastic taster of the products of the BC wine community and continues to indulge a lifelong involvement as dancer who performs with creative friends. 

Allyson Clark

Allyson

Allyson is a graduate student in the Faculty of Forestry at the University of British Columbia. Her thesis focuses on barriers and drivers to sustainability within small to medium sized enterprises. Allyson is passionate about creating social change and educating others on how they can make a positive impact in the world. In her spare time she volunteers with Junior Achievement teaching young children about business basics. She also enjoys hiking, snowboarding, yoga and biking.

Leigh Greenius

Leigh

Before joining the CEP Board in 2011, Leigh volunteered as the CEP Coordinator.  Leigh has had the opportunity to work in the environmental field in a number of different capacities, from puppeteer to air quality research assistant.  This has allowed her to experience a range of environmental issues including salmon habitat restoration, climate change, air quality, and fisheries issues and to understand how they are tied together under the larger umbrella of sustainability.  Leigh works as a Homelessness Services Coordinator at BC Housing.

Leigh holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from UBC and a Master’s degree in Strategic Leadership Towards Sustainability from Blekinge Institute of Technology.  During her graduate degree, her research focused on community scale renewable energy projects.

Leigh was inspired to pursue her education in sustainability by her love of spending time outdoors. One of her favourite activities is hiking and she has explored the mountains of Southern British Columbia extensively.
